Fryz Fish & Chips in Bretton, Peterborough has been family-owned since it opened 30-years-ago with Caroline and Rob Brownlee at the helm since 2006. After a refurbishment to include a new seating area, business at the takeaway grew, and the couple needed more front-of-house cold-storage to sell popular soft drinks.

They chose a Gamko Maxiglass Noverta Premium bottle cooler to match the Foster G2 cabinets the couple already had back-of house. Foster equipment on-site includes one cabinet fridge, one cabinet freezer, one counter fridge, with fish draws.

Rob said he chose Gamko because the brand was able to specify the equipment to suit his exact need; including the largest possible storage and display space, an integrated condenser and in a stainless steel finish to match his frying units.

Rob said: “We needed to replace an aging singleglazed door fridge, which had become noisy, beyond economic repair and was just too small. We wanted a larger cooler, with quality double-glazed doors – it sounds silly but you can feel the quality in the open/close of the doors!“

"Let me say the new bottle cooler has been excellent! It looks fantastic and the Gamko team were great"

The stainless steel finish was also important for us, so that the cooler matched the stainless steel frying range and counter tops. It really looks like it’s part of the frying range.

“Another important factor was that the unit could not have an exposed condenser on the rear. It is placed in front of a barrel of chips so the rear can get splashed with starchy water. The Gamko unit is sealed so protecting the condenser is not a problem now.

Rob said that he and his wife are more than happy with their choice: “Let me say the new bottle cooler has been excellent! It looks fantastic and the Gamko team were great, sending me a diagram of the unit to illustrate the condenser and make sure all the details were correct before we purchased.

"We certainly sell more drinks now that we have a double fronted unit, it looks so good with the LED lighting and full to the brim with drinks - they just sell themselves.”

“The Maxiglass is double the width of my old unit, runs silently and is ice cold. The hinges and seals are great quality and the sealed back is a massive improvement. We certainly sell more drinks now that we have a double fronted unit, it looks so good with the LED lighting and full to the brim with drinks - they just sell themselves.”

Another factor for Rob and Caroline was Gamko’s place on the Government’s Energy Technology Product List (ETPL). This means buyers choosing company’s listed can claim a significant tax relief on products bought, under the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) tax scheme for businesses.

Rob said: “Our choice was between Gamko and a rival manufacturer, but Gamko is part of the ECA scheme, and it was this, along with the warranty package offered, which swung it for us. We haven’t regretted our decision one bit!”
